Just think: they are the most efficient sea predators, yet I have never heard of one hurting a human being. What's more: they are often reported to help shipwreck survivors get safely to the shore, while we are killing dolphins still. Fie!

No act of goodness is lost - and it doesn't matter if you give the poor man a fish or a fishing rod and fishing lessons. Even occasional act of giving money to the charity, intended just to clean your conscience, has a triple value. First, someone will get fed/clothed better. Second, you will raise the charity worker's morale amd his/her faith in people. And last but not least, you will become as slightly better person at the same time.
